Horror Icon Barbara Crampton Joins the Divine Tragedies

Wow, the cool casting news just keeps coming in for THE DIVINE TRAGEDIES! Fan favorite Barbara Crampton (Re-animator,You’re Next)  has joined Lynn Lowry, Ken Foree and Sean Whalen in the horror project set to begin production this month. Head inside for more!

Details:

Writer and director Jose Prendes (The Haunting of Whaley House) and producers Jon and James Kondelik are excited to announce the casting of the eternally beautiful Barbara Crampton (Your’re Next, Re-animator). Crampton joins her From Beyond co-star Ken Foree, in their new film The Divine Tragedies.

Barbara says of the film: “I am very excited to take part in Jose Prendes’s complex and disturbing film, The Divine Tragedies; deeply exploring the nature of relationships and the influence they provide while carving out our places in the world,” she says. “I am excited to play the mother of two brothers whose torturous tendencies exact horrific carnage to people they claim to both admire and love. Being reunited with one of my favorite co-stars, horror luminary Ken Foree, is an added delight!”

The Divine Tragedies, based loosely on the famous Leopold and Loeb murder case, tells the tale of Charles Brubaker (Graham Denman, The Haunting of Whaley House) and his half-brother Thomas Lo Bianco (Jon Kondelik, Airplane Vs. Volcano), who were raised by their arthritis-twisted, alcoholic Mother (Barbara Crampton). The boys concoct a deadly game to test their superior intelligence against the dimwitted masses. This game will eventually lead to murder, and when Genevieve, a beautiful single mother, enters their lives they finally find the perfect girl for their first kill. But problems arise when they quickly discover that Detective Homer Gaul (Ken Foree), a cop with a very special gift, is hot on their trail.

“Barbara is an actress that I have admired for years and I am beyond thrilled to have her on this film,” says Jose. “She glows with life and is really going to surprise people with her performance in this one. Not only does she love the material and respect it, which is the best compliment an actor can give, but she has raised the bar for us dramatically.”

Exclusive: AITH Joins The Asylum’s Airplane Vs Volcano, Saves Superman!

Feb. 5, 2014 by: JimmyO

It was a moment unlike any other, one that will forever be seeped into my memory. Just stepping outside the lavatory door of a flight headed straight for the depth of hell I found myself faced with a conflict of epic proportions. There I was opposite the tension fueled rage of a dangerous villain with a handful of broken mini bottles held against my neck. At this very moment, I singlehandedly stepped in and risked my life to save Superman from being thrown off of a speeding plane… And then the director yelled cut. As I looked back at my unhinged and incredibly professional co-star, Mr. Dean Cain, I mentioned something along the lines of it being a pleasure saving him. He said with a smile that he thinks he could have handled it without me. To that, I agree.

Jon Kondelik and James Kondelik

This was my big scene at The Asylum as part of the cast of their latest action feature AIRPLANE VS. VOLCANO. Yes folks… AIRPLANE VS. VOLCANO! It all began when Jon Kondelik (of the Kondelik Brothers and Dual Visions) approached me about getting an up-close and personal look inside the studio. How could I resist being in a film from the company that gave us SHARKNADO or TRANSMORPHERS! With their offer, I was given the role of “Bob,” a passenger that would ultimately spend a lot of time in the plane bathroom. Once I was sent the script, I memorized my lines – all two of them – and found out exactly how an airplane would possibly be put in a “vs.” situation with a volcano. It didn’t seem like a fair fight at first.

JimmyO and Mr. Dean Cain himself!

The second I arrived on the Asylum sound stage in Burbank California I was shown to the “airplane” where I would be spending much of my time. Considering the budget of this type of feature, I have to say that the set was far more impressive than I had expected. I was quickly shown where I would be sitting as a passenger. There I was, in the very back row just a few seats away from the film’s star, Dean Cain who was already seated reading a book as they were setting up the next shot. I was offered a prop and I chose a pair of large bulky headphones. After all, when I’m on a plane I prefer to listen to music as opposed to talk to the stranger in the seat next to me. Gotta make it real folks… I’m all about “method.”

New Indie Flick Explores The Divine Tragedies

Uncle Creepy's picture

New Indie Flick Explores The Divine TragediesSome films are terrifying, some are kind of startling, and others are just plain weird. Jose Pendres’ new flick, The Divine Tragedies, looks to be all of those and then some. Read on for artwork and more.

From the Press Release
Writer/director Jose Prendes (The Haunting of Whaley House) announces his next film, the serial killer mind-bender: THE DIVINE TRAGEDIES.

Based loosely on the famous Leopold and Loeb murder case of 1924, it tells the tale of Charles Brubaker (played by Graham Denman, The Haunting of Whaley House) and his half-brother Thomas Lo Bianco (played by Jon Kondelik, Airplane Vs. Volcano), who concoct a deadly game to test their superior intelligence against the dimwitted masses. This game will eventually lead to murder, and when Genevieve, a beautiful single mother, enters their lives, they finally find the perfect girl for their first kill. But problems arise when they quickly discover that Detective Homer Gaul, a cop with a very special gift, is hot on their trail.

“It’s essentially a serial killer movie, but really unlike anything done before in the genre,” says Prendes. “I know people always say that, but I really think the film will back me up. It’s American Psycho meets Videodrome by way of John Carpenter. I wanted to make something that would really surprise people. Not just in a gory way, which is easy, but in a beautiful way. The same way a David Lynch movie can be beautiful and surprising.”

The film is being produced by Jon Kondelik and James Kondelik under their production company Dual Visions. The Divine Tragedies is the company’s first of many feature films to come.

“Dual Visions aims to produce feature films that engage an audience with unique experiences,” say the Kondelik Brothers. “People won’t be able to forget the things they’ve seen after watching this film.”

Filming will begin at the end of February. Keep your eyes on The Divine Tragedies Facebook page for updates.

Horror Icon Bill Oberst Jr. Runs An Evil Carnival Booth For ABCs of Death

Oberst stars in “M is for Masochist”, an ABCs of Death 2 submission, directed by The Kondelik Brothers–twin directors with a Dual Vision.

“A game so cruel, it’s cool!” shouts the carnival barker, Sade, in the up-and-coming twin Directors, James and Jon Kondelik, ABCs of Death 2 submission entitled, M is for Masochist, which promises to shock and entertain audiences of the genre.

Oberst is synonymous with horror as seen in over a hundred credits he has to his name including: Resolution, Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies, Children of Sorrow, and viral sensation Take this Lollipop. With Masochist, Oberst brings on the intensity and creepiness with an angel of vengeance twist.

The Kondelik Brothers are twin director newcomers, but not foreign to the horror genre after the feature, A House is not A Home, they wrote won the award for Best Horror Feature at the Burbank Film Festival. More on that here.

Upon wrapping their directorial debut, Jon grew restless as James edited the film. So they called some crew members from their previous film back for a new project to “decompress like a cooling off workout” by writing and directing a short film for the ABCs of Death 2 contest.

The ABCs of Death is a horror anthology with a short for each appointed letter of the alphabet. The first installment was such a success with knockout segments by amazing directors from all over the world that the audience asked for bloody seconds. The second installment has yet another mouth-watering roster that any fanboy could have dreamed for including Julian Barratt of The Mighty Boosh; Todd Rohal (THE CATECHISM CATALYSM); Canada’s king of lo-fi, Steven Kostanski (MANBORG); Cuba’s Alejandro Brugués (JUAN OF THE DEAD); acclaimed UK commercial director Jim Hosking; Japanese monster-maker Hajime Ohata (HENGE); and Canadian short film wizard Chris Nash (SKINFECTIONS).

Previously confirmed filmmakers include Goya Award winner Álex de la Iglesia (THE LAST CIRCUS, DAY OF THE BEAST), ROOM 237 mastermind Rodney Ascher, Academy Award-nominated animator Bill Plympton; Filipino icon – and Director’s Fortnight inductee – Erik Matti (ON THE JOB, MAGIC TEMPLE), Lithuania’s Kristina Buozyte and Bruno Samper (VANISHING WAVES), Japan’s arthouse provocateur Sion Sono (COLD FISH, SUICIDE CLUB), SPLICE and CUBE’s Vincenzo Natali, indie horror icon Larry Fessenden (THE LAST WINTER, HABIT), THE COLLECTION’s Marcus Dunstan, France’s Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (INSIDE, LIVID), E.L. Katz (director of the SXSW breakout hit CHEAP THRILLS), twin auteurs Jen and Sylvia Soska (AMERICAN MARY, DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK), Israel’s Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado (RABIES, BIG BAD WOLVES), A LONELY PLACE TO DIE’s Julian Gilbey, Brazil’s most controversial filmmaker Dennison Ramalho (NINJAS and LOVE FOR MOTHER ONLY), the founder of Nigerian “Nollywood” cinema Lancelot Imasuen, THE LEGEND OF BEAVER DAM and the upcoming STAGEFRIGHT’s Jerome Sable, and animator Robert Morgan – creator of the BAFTA Award nominated short BOBBY YEAH.

Jonathan Nation as the Masochist

The Kondelik Brothers hope to join this amazing roster of directors with their short film, M is for Masochist. Voting ends on November 14th. You may vote here.  For more information about The Kondelik Brothers you may visit www.thekondelikbrothers.com.
